Bord Gáis Networks has been working closely with local businesses and Galway County Council to deliver this project and contract the required gas usage necessary to meet the approval criteria set by the Commission for Energy Regulation (CER). The criteria, which make it viable to bring natural gas to Tuam, have now been met.

Bord Gáis Networks is now finalising the detailed construction plans and timelines for the piped natural gas network within the town.
Engagement is continuing with Galway County Council on the procurement of the carrier ducts that were laid as part of the main drainage project and through which the gas pipelines are inserted. The use of these pre-laid ducts will considerably reduce the amount of excavation required and minimise disruption to local businesses and residents. Once agreement on this is reached with the Council, Bord Gáis Networks will be in a position to commence construction.
