Sewerage Work To Begin In East Belfast

As part of Northern Ireland Water's study into the upgrade of the sewerage infrastructure in East Belfast, an essential programme of Sewer Investigation Work will get underway on the 18th February in the Mount Merrion area and will continue for approximately 3 weeks.

This investigation work is essential to allow NI Water to progress with a major upgrade to the sewerage infrastructure in the area.


The current sewerage infrastructure is ageing and in poor condition and requires upgrading. This investigation work will allow us to investigate options to update the existing infrastructure, reduce the risk of out of sewer flooding, improve the quality of the water in the local watercourses and will ensure that the infrastructure in the area complies with Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) standards in the future.

As with all work of this nature, there may be an element of disruption as this work will involve testing ground conditions in the area. NI Water and its contractor Causeway Geotech Ltd have assured customers that it will do everything possible to complete the work as quickly as possible with minimum disruption.
