Funding Approved For Dunmore Sewerage Collection System

Mr Phil Hogan, T.D., Minister for the Environment, Community & Local Government, has announced that he has approved the necessary funding to allow Waterford County Council accept the tender of just over €2.6m submitted by McGinty & O'Shea Ltd to upgrade the sewerage collection network in Dunmore East as part of the Waterford Grouped Towns & Villages Sewerage Scheme.

The Grouped Towns and Villages Sewerage Scheme is included in his Department’s Water Services Investment Programme 2010 – 2013 at an estimated cost of over €50 million. The Scheme entails the construction of new or upgraded wastewater treatment and collection systems in Ardmore, Ballyduff/Kilmeaden, Cappoquin, Dunmore East, Kilmacthomas, Stradbally and Tallow. Waterford County Council is advancing the Scheme on the basis of separate contracts for the collection systems and a single Design Build and Operate (DBO) contract for the wastewater treatment plants.


Waterford County Council has already completed the works on upgrading the wastewater collection systems in Tallow, Kilmacthomas and Stradbally. The Sewerage Collection Systems in Ardmore, Cappoquin and Ballyduff/Kilmeaden are substantially completed. The Council will shortly tender for the DBO Contract which will provide the Wastewater Treatment Plants for the seven villages.

The Minister said: "When complete the scheme will provide modern sewerage infrastructure which will cater for current residential and commercial needs in the towns and villages involved, especially in Ardmore, Cappoquin and Dunmore East as well as setting a platform for development needs for the foreseeable future. The Scheme will also significantly improve water quality in the local river systems and the coastal waters at Ardmore and Dunmore East."
