£2.4m Invested In Castlereagh Maintenance Schemes

Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy has set out Roads Service’s progress on investment totalling £2.4million for road improvement and maintenance schemes in the Castlereagh area this year.

The Minister said: "A wide range of road improvement and maintenance schemes is planned or already complete in the Castlereagh Borough Council area.

"This incorporates expenditure on structural maintenance which has delivered many needed projects including 3.4km of both carriageway and footway resurfacing completed in the Castlereagh area. These resurfacing schemes cover 2.1km of carriageway resurfacing at Saintfield Road and East Link Road, as well as both carriageway and 1.3 km of footway resurfacing at Chartwell Park, Kerrymount Park, Clivedeen Crescent, Alt Min Avenue and Coolpark Avenue.


"The autumn round of Council meetings is a timely opportunity for Councils to discuss potential schemes and priorities."

At the meeting, Divisional Roads Manager, Bertie Ellison focused on a number of improvement and maintenance schemes currently planned or progressed. Mr Ellison welcomed drainage schemes which had been completed at Grahamsbridge Road, Ballykeel Road Moneyreagh, Tudor Drive, Manse Road Carryduff, Newtownbreda Road and Kings Road at the underpass. Further work is programmed for the Knock Dual Carriageway at Glenview Park, Gransha Road, Ballyregan Crescent, Newtownbreda Road, Ballygowan Road, Ivanhoe Avenue, Newtown Park and Martinville Park.
