Need For Slane By-Pass Reinforced - FF

Fianna Fáil Senator Thomas Byrne has today welcomed the publication of the Slane N2 Traffic Management Study Update which strongly indicates that a HGV ban, while good news for Slane, could cause serious problems on other roads around the area. The study indicates that there might be significant extra traffic on the R152 Kilmoon-Duleek Road if HGVs were banned through Slane.

He said: "While many of us in the past have supported the concept of a HGV ban through Slane, it has never replaced in our minds the need for a bypass of that village. This study proves now that a HGV ban would benefit Slane to some extent but that those benefits would be outweighed by negatives almost everywhere else including in the Duleek area.


"This Study indeed proves the case for a Slane by-pass. I want to pay tribute to those officials in Meath County Council who have undertaken the work since An Bord Pleanala gave its decision earlier this year. However, I would like to remind the Government, its local TDs and Minister Varadkar that in the wake of the board’s decision, they promised concrete action within three months. We have not yet seen this."
