Call For Full Disclosure Of The 'Carlton' Site

Sinn Féin Dublin City Councillors have called for full disclosure from City Council management concerning the revelations made in the recent TG4 investigation of the 'Carlton' site linking O'Connell St and Moore St, including the 1916 National Monument, last meeting place of the leaders of the Easter Rising.

The Councillors have tabled an emergency motion for a City Council meeting.

Councillor Mícheál Mac Donncha said: "The revelations in the TG4 documentary compound the scandal which has seen the historic last meeting place of the 1916 leaders on Moore Street under threat and which has seen a huge section of the main street of our capital city lying derelict for decades.

"Secret deals and agreements between City Council management and developers, the alleged misuse of the compulsory purchase order process to benefit one developer and the deception of the public and public representatives all featured in the revelations.

"We must now have full disclosure from Dublin City Council management about all the details of this debacle and full accountability for actions taken.

"It would be inconceivable for the proposed giant shopping mall to go ahead now against the background of this planning scandal and in the face of massive public support for the full preservation of the National Monument and the enhancement of this historic quarter of our city.

"Arts, Culture and Sports Minister Jimmy Deenihan has this matter on his desk. He should refuse to give the go-ahead to the planned development."
