The Minister said: "The increase in the school-going population here in Cobh meant that the old building was outgrown and was no longer fit for purpose.
"So I am delighted to see the opening of the new 24 classroom school to cater for our increasing pupil numbers.

"It means that, as well as catering for current pupil enrolment, the school has the capacity to grow into the future."
Rushbrooke National School is a co-educational primary school catering for boys and girls from Junior Infants to 6th class.
It is staffed by a principal, 24 mainstream class teachers, three special class teachers and ancillary staff, and has a current enrolment of some 709 pupils.
The Board of Management initially applied for an extension and refurbishment project. However, it was decided that a new 24 classroom school and a special needs unit would better meet the long term accommodation needs of the school.
The project began work on site in June 2011, with JSL Group Limited appointed as the main contractor.
The cost of the project was some €4.2m.
