Councillor Boyle said: "I spoke with the developer of the site last week as work began on clearing and preparing it for a new private housing scheme. The site, which is located between Chippendale Park and Dunraven Park is, undoubtedly, in a prime location.

"As a long time resident of Foyle Springs I know that the situation with this field could often be a source of frustration for people living in the area. Over the years it became an eyesore and was sometimes an attraction to some elements that were using it as a drinking and partying zone.
"It is encouraging to see that this developer has enough confidence to start work on this sort of site at this time. It will provide much needed construction jobs and also ultimately will give opportunities for new families and first time buyers to move into the area. Needless to say there will be opportunities for local residents to engage with the planning process for a site that could ultimately house a significant number of families."
