Lisburn Home Leads The Way For Renewable Heating

A home in Lisburn is heating up thanks to the Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) SMART Programme.

Simon Bamford has recently installed a new ground source heat pump which will provide his home with efficient heating and hot water.

Simon says installing the ground source heat pump was an opportunity not only to save on energy costs but to also protect the local environment. He said: "Our main reasons for installing the ground source heat pump was to cut our fuel bills and reduce our reliance on fossil fuels. The heat pump works by taking heat from the ground and using electricity to boost this heat to a level that is needed for our home’s heating system. The grant support available from the NIE SMART programme certainly gave us the incentive to install the heat pump and we are delighted with the system so far."

Kirsty Pollock, from Power NI, visited Simon at his home this week and is delighted to see local homeowners installing ground source heat pumps. She said: "This renewable technology is becoming increasingly popular within the UK and I am really pleased to see Northern Ireland homeowners embracing it. Heat pumps can help to improve the energy rating of your home and can also help to reduce your energy bills and carbon footprint. We hope this example in Lisburn will encourage more homeowner’s to recognise the economic and environmental benefits of using renewable energy to heat their homes."
