Sean Treacy House Regeneration Project Officially Opens

Lord Mayor of Dublin, Andrew Montague and Minister for Housing and Planning, Jan O’ Sullivan T.D., jointly unveiled a plaque to officially open the €14 million Sean Treacy House Regeneration Project, Buckingham Street, Dublin.

"Communities are the heart of our city and that’s why I am so pleased that the residents of Sean Treacy House were so involved in this project. Their commitment and dedication has been integral to the success of this project as was seen in 2011 when the project won the overall Community Housing Award from the Irish Council for Social Housing for the strong partnerships created between Dublin City Council, Circle Voluntary Housing Association and the Residents, and for Best Regeneration Project. I would like to wish all the residents well in their new homes," said the Lord Mayor.

"The official opening of the redeveloped Seán Treacy House is a testament to the spirit and commitment of the local community. They, together with Dublin City Council and Circle Housing Association, have done tremendous work to bring to fruition this award-winning housing development and it is an honour to be invited to the official opening. I have a strong commitment to regeneration. This year €40m will be invested by my Department in regeneration projects across Dublin City. This funding will be used to help create the communities that people deserve, often in areas of the city that have been blighted by decades of neglect," said Minister Jan O’ Sullivan T.D.

Sean Treacy House was originally built in the 1960s and consisted of forty six units. Under the regeneration project, which was completed in 2011 and funded by the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government, the original blocks of flats were demolished and replaced with a mixed housing development of fifty three units consisting of duplexes and apartments. More than 40% of the units have a Building Energy Rating of A and benefit from solar heating and self condensing gas boilers. The three, four and five storey blocks surround an enclosed landscaped courtyard at the centre of the complex. A community building was also constructed as part of the project and this provides an after school service for children and a meeting venue for the residents.
