Calls For Irish Rail To Publish Engineers Report On Flooding

Labour TD Kevin Humphreys has said it is "outrageous" that Irish Rail have not published a report into the flooding that occurred last October along the banks of the River Dodder,

The obstruction caused by debris collecting under the Irish Rail Bridge led to the flooding of dozens of homes and properties upstream in the Ballsbridge area.

Mr Humphreys said: "Nearly six months have passed since this event, and I was previously informed that the report by expert structural engineers would be received by Irish Rail last month. In the meantime, residents and businesses have had to rebuild and refurbish, and it is time to apportion responsibility.


"The scaffolding that was hanging down into the river from the railway bridge was a significant factor in blocking the flow of water, leading to the breaching of banks. Photos from the night and day after clearly demonstrate this. Further there was no evidence of any risk assessment having been carried out prior to placing the scaffolding into a river that was a known pluvial flood risk.

"It is outrageous at this stage that the report has not been published, and residents deserve answers. It would be unacceptable for Irish Rail to conduct such a report and not publish it, and as a public utility it has a duty to be open and transparent on this matter."
