Labour Court Chairman To Lead Mediation Effort In Vita Cortex Dispute

The Labour Relations Commission has confirmed that a three person mediation team, headed by Labour Court chairman, Kevin Duffy, has been appointed to lead discussions aimed at finding a resolution to the long running Vita Cortex dispute.

SIPTU Organiser, Anne Egar, said that the workers had been informed earlier today that Kevin Duffy with the assistance of former Labour Court officials, Jack Nash and John Doherty, are to act as mediators in talks which are expected to commence shortly.


"We have been informed that Kevin Duffy is to chair the discussions with the assistance of Jack Nash and John Doherty. We are now awaiting contact as to when and how they intend to proceed with the mediation," Anne Egar said.

The Vita Cortex workers are seeking their agreed redundancy payments of 0.9 weeks per year of service from the company owner, Jack Ronan.

They received their statutory redundancy entitlements of two weeks per year of service from the Department of Social Protection in February.

The workers have been occupying the former foam manufacturing plant on the Kinsale Road in Cork since 16th December last.
