FF Leader Promises Support To Lagan Brick Workers

Construction News Image
The Fianna Fáil Leader has strongly urged the management at Lagan Brick to enter talks with unions at the Labour Court as a matter of urgency.

Deputy Micheál Martin visited Lagan Brick in Kingscourt Co Cavan this week. He met with the workers and pledged his support to their campaign for better redundancy conditions.

Deputy Martin was accompanied by Cavan-Monaghan Fianna Fáil TD Brendan Smith and Meath Senator Thomas Byrne.

Speaking afterwards Deputy Smith said: "Micheál Martin and I are both deeply concerned about what has happened at Lagan Brick and the disgraceful manner in which the workers were treated. They were only told they were being made redundant hours before the factory shut down in December. Some of the workers only knew minutes beforehand. For this to happen in the days leading up to Christmas was extremely upsetting for the workers and their families.

"Fianna Fáil fully supports the campaign of the Lagan Brick workers for the redundancy terms they deserve. This situation has been going on far too long, and it has caused intense worry for the people affected.

Speaking at the plant, Micheál Martin called for all sides to go to the Labour Court as a matter of urgency to secure a fair resolution to this dispute. I support him in this call and I will continue my campaign of support for the Lagan Brick workers and their families."
