Fine Gael Meath West TD, Ray Butler, has welcomed funding of more than €12 million for Co. Meath roads, which has been approved by the Minister for Transport, Leo Varadkar. Trim Town Council will receive a block grant of almost €200,000 as part of the funding.
He said: "I am pleased to confirm that Minister Varadkar is allocating more than €12 million to Meath County Council for the maintenance of roads across the county over the next year. This money will be spent on improving roads, erecting new signposts and on winter maintenance.
"A number of specific improvement projects, costing a total of €1.13 million, will be carried out at the following routes; R147 Kells Town Centre, R153 Balrath Cross Bridge, R153 Navan to Balrath Road, R156 Dunboyne/Summerhill Road, R164 Oakleypark Bridge and R165 Corkey Culvert.
"Low cost safety improvement works will also be carried out on local and regional roads at Blackhall Cross, Boolies, Corcarra, Dunderry, Rathmolyon and Scurlockstown. These works will cost a total of €207,400.
"Trim Town Council has been allocated €195,000 in a block grant under this round of funding. Block grants have been preserved at 2011 rates, and local authorities have been given greater flexibility in the selection of roads where work is being undertaken. Ceannanus Mor Town Council is also receiving a block grant of €195,000."
