At Drogheda District Court on 12 January, Mr Martin Joyce, Primatestown, Ashbourne, Co Meath pleaded guilty to two charges under the Waste Management Acts 1996, relating to offences in May 2011. On two separate occasions, Mr Joyce was stopped by members of An Garda Síochána and found with scrapped vehicles on board a vehicle transporter.

The 4 May offence occurred at Mooremount, Dunleer while the 14 May offence was detected at Tankardsrock, Kilcurry, Dundalk.
Mr Joyce does not have a waste collection permit, an offence under Section 34 of the Waste Management Acts, 1996.
Judge Flann Brennan fined him €100 in respect of the first summons and ordered him to pay Louth County Council prosecution expenses of €750 and legal costs of €350. He applied the Probation Act in respect of the second summons.
Frank Pentony, Director of Services, Louth Local Authorities, said: "We continue to make full and fair use of the extensive waste management legislation so as to protect the environment in Louth. Those committing offences ranging from littering and pollution to unlicensed waste collection should be aware of this and of the penalties the courts impose on conviction."
