Danny Kennedy said: "I welcome the additional allocations of £7 million for roads and £3m for transport. This will allow us to take forward additional capital investment and maintenance of the road network and support the purchase of new buses by Translink.
"The roads additional funding means maintenance on the roads network will be at a record high. The funding will allow us to provide new drainage, localised reconstruction and to resurface in excess of 25km’s of carriageway. The majority of which will be targeted towards the local road network. Investment in road maintenance will be a welcome boost to the construction industry and facilitate economic growth, which is key to our future competitiveness."

Commenting on the extra funding for transport the Minister said: "The £3m additional capital for Translink will enable it to continue to invest in upgrading its bus fleet. This funding supplements other investment in buses over recent years, which has dramatically improved the level of accessibility and the average fleet age. At the end of this year we expect the average age of buses in the Translink fleet to between six and seven years and accessibility compliance to be 100% on Metro and close to 90% on Ulsterbus."
