A Kildare-based contractor has been awarded the position of main contractor for a proposed €9m project in Wexford and a €4m project in Leitrim.
Subject to planning approval BAM Contractors have been appointed for the proposed construction of a two to three-storey post primary school at Creagh Demesne, Gorey Rural, Co. Wexford.
The current plans revealed that the school would include classrooms, special needs unit, P.E hall, play courts and playing pitches.
Car parking (surface and multi-storey); bus set down areas; new access road including pedestrian/cycle route from the east off the inner relief road; new pedestrian/cycle link from the west; and all ancillary site development works will also be tackled during the project.
Designed by CJ Falconer and Associates and promoted by the Department of Education and Science it is hoped the main construction work will commence on the site during late March, 2012 and the contract period is estimated at 18 months. The cost of the scheme is in the region of €9 million.
In addition the same company has also secured another contract for the construction of a new two-storey post primary school building at Lahard, Ballinamore in Co. Leitrim.
The school building will include a PE Hall, play courts and a playing pitch.
Meanwhile other plans include bus and car set down areas, parking with vehicular access and egress from the west off the R202 regional road; ancillary engineering services including connections to public watermain and sewer; ancillary structures including ESB substation, LPG tank storage and external facilities management store; and all associated site development works.
Main construction work is expected to commence on site during February, 2012 and the contract period is estimated at 12 months. The cost of the scheme is in the region of €4 million.
