Dublin Sewage Plant In Line For €200m Upgrade

Dubin's public sewage plant is to undergo a massive upgrade after being over capacity for nearly a decade.

€220 million is to be spent on the upgrade to Dublin's municipal sewage plant at Ringsend which has been working at overcapacity since it opened 8 years ago.

According www.unearthore.com to the Council will begin a public consultation next month on the upgrade works, which will take an estimated three years to complete.


The work will involve extending the capacity of the plant to a 2.1 million population equivalent on a seven-acre site within the boundaries of the current facility.

A 9km pipeline, to bring the treated wastewater outside Dublin Bay for disposal, will also be tackled during the upgrade.

While the extension will ease the strain on the capital's sewerage system, a new regional sewage plant is still required. Planning for the new plant, which will serve Dublin city and county as well as parts of Meath and Kildare, is underway and a shortlist of sites is expected to be published later this month.
