Contractor Wins Galway Water Scheme

Mayo contractors Shareridge Limited has been appointed by Galway City Council to undertake work on the second phase of the Galway City Water Conservation Phase 2.

The project incorporates the advancing of the Galway City Water Conservation Scheme throughout the city with a view to managing leakage and minimising water losses.

This project will provide an upgraded and improved water management system that will enable Galway City Council to effectively monitor water usage throughout the distribution network, improve reaction time to extreme weather events and other supply interruptions and reduce water losses through improved leak detection and repair techniques.


The project is split into three stages, the first being the installing of the water meters, the second is the identification of burst pipes and leaks and repairing these; it is believed that the second stage will begin almost immediately after the meters are installed. The third stage will involve the replacing of mains which have experienced significant bursts.

Works are expected to commence in September 2011 and take in the region of 12 months to complete.

Ryan Hanley had been appointed as consulting Engineers for the scheme.
