City Open Spaces Competition Launched

Belfast City Council is asking the public to vote for their favourite city park or open space to win a prestigious award.

Seven Belfast parks and open spaces recently won a coveted Green Flag, the national excellence standard for parks management.

Now the council is asking the public to vote for one of the seven sites in the hope of winning the People’s Choice Award for Site of the Year in the UK.

People can vote by accessing www.belfastcity.gov.uk/parksandopenspaces/greenflagawards.asp and choosing their favourite park from the award winners. These are Falls, Ormeau and Musgrave Parks, Roselawn Cemetery, Barnett Demesne, Botanic Gardens, and Cave Hill Country Park.


Councillor Steven Corr, Chairman of Parks and Leisure Committee said: "We have done a fantastic job by winning green flags for all seven of the parks and open spaces we entered, now we want to go one step further.

"Community support played an important part in helping us achieve green flag status and it is public votes which will determine the winner for site of the year. So we are asking everyone to get voting now." Voting closes at noon on 9 September.
