Dublin-based contractors John Sisk and Son has been appointed to undertake construction work on the a new education campus at the former Army barracks on the Armagh Road in Knockaconny in County Monaghan.
The project, designed by Dublin–based architects, Oppermann and Associates for Monaghan County VEC calls for the demolition of all the existing buildings on the site including the perimeter wall facing the Armagh Road off the N12 to incorporate the change of use of the existing lands from barracks to educational use.
The development comprises construction of a new split level two-storey/three-storey 16 classroom Primary School (2,490 sq.m.), new three-storey 400 student post primary school (3,965 sq.m.), new part three part four-storey 700 student college of Further Education (7,042 sq.m.), new two-storey sports hall (1,325 sq.m.), new two-storey/three-storey Theatre Building (1,583 sq.m), new internal road with set-down area for buses, two ESB substations, ancillary storerooms/electrical rooms (273 sq.m.), new boundary treatment facing the Armagh Road off the N12, car parking for 291 vehicles, ball courts, landscaping & associated site works, relocated entrance and new roundabout and associated road works at the junction of the entrance to the IDA Business Park on the Armagh Road in Knockaconny.
The total development area is 16,980 sq.m. Part of the site for the Project is to be reserved for the construction of an additional national school at a later date.
