Carrickfergus-based McCue Fit-Out today urged businesses to support new trainees as it unveiled details of a partnership with Northern Regional College.
The fit-out specialist confirmed that a group of college students will be offered valuable hands-on training in joinery and wood occupations and given a chance to join its ranks of master craftspeople.
The initiative is delivered through the Department for Employment and Learning’s Training for Success Initiative, and combines college training with practical work experience. Trainees on the programme receive a weekly training allowance as they work towards the industry-approved Level 2 Framework.
Les McCracken, Managing Director at McCue said it was vital to maintain the skills base while developing new talent.
“Employment for school leavers continues to be challenging as they often have to compete with experienced staff for a limited number of roles. Programmes like this are important as they help trainees boost their core skills and bridge the gap to employment.
“We understand the importance of training, development and lifelong learning to help our people reach their potential and create an enthused proactive atmosphere. By investing in young people we can continue to pass on practical knowhow and give local talent the skills needed to claim jobs.
“We have already been impressed by the quality of the trainees from Northern Regional College and are excited to welcome them to our team,” he added.
In the last year McCue expanded its operations throughout the UK, Ireland and Europe. An established supplier of choice for a selection of leading retail brands, the firm will hand trainees an opportunity to work on major projects across GB and Ireland.
Sean Mc Aleese Training Manager at Northern Regional College said: “This is a high quality training programme which enables trainees to learn directly from the very best in the business. The partnership is a strong endorsement from McCue in the potential of our trainees and a valuable investment in the next wave of skilled joiners and craftspeople.
“McCue is recognised at the highest levels of the industry as an employer of choice and leader in its field. Trainees will have a rare chance to refine and progress their joinery skills, build confidence in their abilities and work in a team environment with brands they recognise.”
