Belfast Construction Jobs 'In Pipeline'

Large-scale maintenance work is to get under way in the Ladybrook area of west Belfast to replace dated sewer pipes next month.

Providing a modest fillip for jobs in the construction industry, the work, due to begin in August, will last for a number of months, with completion expected in early 2012.

David McGrath, Project Manager with NI Water, said the next phase of work will ultimately benefit the residents in the Ladybrook area.


"The pipes that are under these homes date back to the 1960s and were made with a material called pitch fibre which is beginning to deteriorate. This has led to an increase in out-of-sewer flooding and blockages.

"The investigation work is nearing completion and the next phase will be commencing in August. Work will be taking place to the rear of residents' homes, mostly in their gardens, and residents will receive notification of this," he said.

"NI Water will be liaising with local councillors and residents' groups and we expect to hold a facilitation meeting in advance of the work starting," he said.
