Community Gets Rail Facility Tour

Translink and Graham Construction recently welcomed a group of local children and representatives from local Morton Community Centre to the construction site of a new train maintenance facility in Adelaide, South Belfast.

The group were given a 'hard hat' tour of the site and viewed plans for the new modern facility that will provide engineering workshops, a train wash, fuelling and train stabilizing facilities for a new fleet of 20 Class 4000 Translink NI Railways trains currently being delivered.

Speaking at Adelaide, Translink Communications Manager, Lynda Shannon, said the visit was a good way to educate local people on the importance of the facility and highlight key safety messages: "We are pleased to welcome representatives from the local Morton Community Centre on-site to find out more about this important new trains project.

"This visit lets them see first-hand the work that is currently underway and it has been especially useful to inform local children about the dangers of playing around busy construction sites.

"We are liaising closely with the surrounding community on project developments and would like to thank local people for their continued support with this project which will play an essential role in continuing to improve Northern Ireland's rail network," she said.

Nuala Griffiths, Community Liaison Officer, Graham Construction, added that the safety visit was especially important close to the school summer holiday period: "We are delighted to provide Morton Community Centre with this special site visit as part of our ongoing community liaison and Considerate Constructors Scheme.

"We want to deliver key safety messages relating to construction sites and give local young people the opportunity to see the heavy plant and machinery used during this major project," she said, noting that, as schools prepare for the summer break "we want to highlight the dangers of playing in and around construction sites and demonstrate the procedures that are in place to ensure the health and safety of the general public".
