Bangor Social Housing Scheme Opened

A new, £1.7m housing scheme for active older people in Bangor has been officially opened.

Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland has praised the development of 14 two bedroom apartments at Trinity Heights on Bloomfield Road South was developed by Trinity Housing in response to a growing waiting list for this type of more easily managed accommodation.

The apartments have been designed to incorporate the recommendations of the Crime Design Advisor from the PSNI, ensuring that residents feel safe and secure. In addition, they have also been built to high energy efficiency specifications.

Minister McCausland said: "The importance of good housing in people’s lives cannot be underestimated. Trinity Housing is to be congratulated for providing these much needed apartments, designed specifically for older people, in an area that continues to have a high housing need.

"As the new Minister for Social Development I want to make a real difference to the lives of those who suffer from poor, or worse still, no housing.

"One of my priorities in the months and years ahead will be to not only increase the supply of housing, but also improve the quality in those areas where that still remains a problem. More new housing schemes such as we have seen will help achieve these objectives," he said.

During a tour of the premises the Minister met James and Alice Lawther who showed him around their new home.

Bill Reilly, Chair of Trinity Housing said: "Trinity is honoured that the Minister is here to celebrate with our residents the official opening of this important housing scheme. We look forward to working with Minister McCausland to deliver quality housing and excellent services.

"Trinity Housing is very proud of the Trinity Heights scheme, which is situated so close to local amenities and completed to such high standards. It has been very popular with applicants and residents are enjoying their new homes."
