Improvements Put Galway 'On The Right Road'

Improvement works are being proposed to approximately 2,300m of eastbound and westbound carriageways and associated junctions in Galway.

The Bothar na dTreabh (N6) Multi-Modal Corridor Improvement Scheme Phase 1 will see the improvement carried out on two sections of the N6 namely.

These will be between the existing Browne and Bodkin roundabouts and between the existing Kirwan and Font roundabouts.


Specifically the contract is proposed to include an upgrade of the existing Newcastle Road/N6 signalised junction including new traffic signals, footpaths and cycle tracks.

The replacement of the existing surface course in the vicinity of the Newcastle Road/N6 junction is also to be involved and the introduction of new signage and road markings along the carriageway as well as existing and proposed footpath and cycle tracks and repairs to damaged sections of existing footpath and cycle track will be part of the work as well.

According to the website www.unearthore.com the work went out to tender in mid May from Galway City Council, the awarding authority for the contracts.
