The construction of a 'Park and Ride' facility at a site in Cork City has been proposed.
The site is the location of a former landfill, which ceased operation more than 30 years ago on the Carrigrohane Road and is bounded with the Curraheen river which runs to the south and the existing Carrigrohane Road which is to the north.
According to the website www.unearthore.com the project includes the construction of single storey Administration Building of approximately 319m2.
The structure includes for a piled foundation with raft slab on dynamically compacted man made ground.
The external walls comprise selected cladding panels on galvanised metal carrier rails, drylining to inner face. Internal walls are insulated stud partitions; Frame & roof structure comprise steel columns and sloping roof beams with associated bracing and supports. External walls completions include for structural curtain walling and aluminium framed windows.
The associated carpark area is approximately 18,914m2; due to the existing ground conditions remediation works are required including dynamic compaction across the entire site in advance of any works, geosynthetic liners will then be installed to control gas and leachate movements, followed by the laying of pavements and the construction of buildings, supported by piles.
Alteration works to the Carrigrohane Road are also required to facilitate this development.
The works include the creation of a new right turning lane and the realignment of the existing roadway. New traffic lights including pedestrian crossings are also to be installed as part of the traffic management strategy.
