The main contractor has been appointed for the construction of a three-storey extension to Beechfield Nursing Home, Shankill, Co Dublin.
The development includes a new three-storey pitched roof extension linked to the existing building on all levels including the removal of the existing external metal escape stairs on the north eastern side of the original Beechfield House and internal modifications to the accommodation.
According to the website, unearthore.com, the accommodation will include a new internal escape stairs, canteen, office, treatment room, day space and a new bedroom. The removal of the lower ground floor existing single-storey conservatory building located to the north western end of the development and the construction of a new three-storey pitched roof extension linked to the existing building on all levels.
The scheme includes 18 bedrooms, a new internal escape stairs and store areas, a single-storey flat roof (with external terrace) extension to the south western area of the original Beechfield House, on the lower ground floor level and additional dining/day space and internal modifications to increase the kitchen.
A single-storey flat roof bay window on the lower ground floor to the north elevation of the bedroom block is also proposed.
The removal of the existing internal stairs will accommodate a new bed lift and the construction of a single-storey flat roof lift motor room at lower ground floor level. Internal modifications to the original Beechfield House include, forming an opening in the external wall at lower ground floor level to increase day space, forming new partitions and raising the floor level to form a new shower room on the ground floor, forming new partitions and lowering the floor level to form a new assisted bathroom and modifications to the existing bedroom on the first floor, some service upgrading / and decoration of the protected structure is included.
Some internal alterations and modifications to the existing bedroom block to upgrade the facilities are proposed.
Siteworks, upgrade services, carparking and landscaping minor works to the existing north eastern boundary adjacent to the ESB mini sub station are also proposed. The overall completed development will increase the number of bedrooms from 54 to 69. The total development area is 1,052 square metres.
Demolition works will measure 56.7 square metres and existing buildings total 1,758.5 square metres.
Work commenced on site during late February 2011 and the contract period is estimated at nine months.
The value of the scheme is in the region of €1.5 million. Sub-contractors will be appointed in due course.
