An NI Housing Executive (NIHE) contractor, PK Murphy has promised it will work closely with residents as over 130 homes in north Belfast's Ardoyne get external improvements at a cost of almost £300,000.
The homes were built by the NIHE between 1976 and 1994 and work is being carried out as part of a cyclical maintenance programme. The areas concerned are Ardoyne Avenue and Walk; Havana Court, Gardens, Walk and Way; Jamaica Court, Road, Street and Way and Kingston Court.
The majority of homes already have uPVC double glazed windows and these will be serviced as part of the scheme - homes that don't have double glazing will get new uPVC windows.
NIHE will also replace any defective external doors and rainwater goods as well as carrying out repairs to roofs, chimneys, fencing, external walls, railings and paths prior to redecoration.
Malachy McKinney, the NIHE North Belfast District Manager, said: "We are very glad to see this scheme starting as it further demonstrates our commitment to providing tenants in north Belfast with high quality homes.
"Given the nature of the scheme it will also have a very positive impact on the entire area.
"As with all schemes the emphasis is very much on customer satisfaction and to this end we will be working closely with our contractor PK Murphy and the community so that any concerns that arise during the scheme are addressed as quickly as possible. Each tenant will also be contacted in the run up to the scheme starting to ensure that they are fully aware of our proposals," he said.
