Hotel Moves Reported In Co Limerick

Ambitious plans have been lodged with Limerick County Council to construct a 50-bedroom hotel at the Unicorn bar in Dooradoyle, Co. Limerick.

According to detailed proposals, permission for a hotel development with underground is being sought for the €4 million proposals will see two houses currently situated between the Unicorn and the roundabout of St Paul's Church demolished.

It is not the first time permission has been sought to construct a hotel beside the Unicorn, in February 2009, permission from Limerick County Council was won and later withdrawn just five days later.

And another application for a hotel on the same site was also lodged, and withdrawn, in the second half of 2009.

Meanwhile, other news in the county has seen a buyer found for the landmark Two Mile Inn Hotel on the Ennis dual carriageway in Limerick City, two years after it first went on the market and almost four months after it ceased operations.

It is understood that the price agreed was in the region of €1.2 million.

It is believed that the building may be converted for use as a nursing home or similar activity giving the beleaguered building sector a much-needed fillip.

The property is very substantial, with 123 bedrooms, a bar/restaurant area and conferencing facilities as well as extensive car parking space. It occupies an 11-acre site on the Ennis dual carriageway, just at the edge of the city.

The hotel ceased operations in September, 2010.
