WindowMaster Keeps Drivers On The Move

WindowMaster is supplying an automated window control system for six new motorway service stations in the Republic of Ireland.

The control system is based on WindowMaster's MotorLink technology and includes actuators and controls. It is designed to control the façade windows in each of the new service stations.

The service stations were constructed by Superstop, a consortium comprising retailer AppleGreen, fuel supplier TOP Oil and building contractor Pierse Contracting.

The consortium was awarded the contract to build six service stations – four on the M1 Dublin to Belfast motorway and two on the M4 Dublin to Galway route – on behalf or Ireland's National Road Authority (www.nra.ie).


Each of the 1,200-1,500 square metre buildings includes an Applegreen convenience store, three food outlets with up to 240 seats and an 80 square metre play area. Wi-fi access, phone top-up, lottery, toll tags, ATM, and tourist information areas are also included.

WindowMaster's Ireland Sales Manager Peter Connolly said: "The contract called for system design and delivery of the necessary components, also the required wiring diagrams and commissioning.

"The MotorLink™ solution was selected because of its ability to provide two-way communication between the actuators on the façade windows and the building management system.

"Actuators from WindowMaster using MotorLin technology feature two-way communication between the control system and the individual window operator. Feedback from every window operator can provide precise window position feedback, as well as an early indication of any potential faults."

The WindowMaster operators can be fully synchronised. Up to four operators can work together synchronously on one window with a tolerance of less than 2 mm. MotorLink enables the operators to communicate with each other directly and adjust their speed so that they always run synchronised.
