Cork Schools Bid For Summer Works Scheme

Cork South Central Fianna Fáil T.D. Michael McGrath has encouraged schools in Cork City and County to apply now for funding under the Summer Works Scheme 2011.

The purpose of the scheme is to devolve funding from the Department of Education & Skills to individual schools to undertake small-scale building works.

Mr McGrath said: "In 2010, €13 million was spent under the Summer Works Scheme by some 170 primary and post-primary schools in Cork City and County. The works in question ranged from gas works and electrical upgrades, through to window and roof replacements.


"The works which can be carried out under the Summer Works Scheme help to create a better learning and working environment for pupils and staff alike. Confirmation that the scheme is proceeding again in 2011 is also a welcome boost to contractors in the Cork area.

"I would encourage all schools in Cork City and County to consider now if they have any suitable works that need to be done and which can be funded under the Summer Works Scheme 2011."

The closing date for receipt of applications under the Scheme for 21st January 2011.
