Dublin Water Restrictions To Continue

Dublin's water supply will continue to affected by cut offs and rotations over the next few days as the council tries to bring the situation under control.

In a statement issued yesterday, the council said restrictions will have to continue to ensure that drinking water storage levels return to normal levels. Meanwhile, the restrictions will be reviewed on an ongoing basis and the regime may have to be altered if the situation changes, according to the statement.

A council spokesman said: "We are very conscious that the restrictions (because of the nature of the system) have affected some more than others. However we intend to stagger the cut offs from tonight so that those areas most affected will only be cut off every second night."

The base hours for restrictions and cut offs over the next few days will be pressure reductions and cut offs on Tuesday Jan 4 – 7pm to 7am 5th Jan, and at the same time on Wednesday 5th Jan.

A number of special tankers have been sent to various Dublin locations, such as Artane Castle, Shopping Centre (Off Skellys lane) in Coolock, Hampton Wood in St Margarets Road, Captains Road in Crumlin and Blackhall Place in Smithfield.

There are also have a number of mobile tankers available to respond to areas as needed, according to the spokesman.

Dublin City Council has also appealed to the owners and operators of car washes which use mains water to discontinue their use for the duration of the current water supply crisis, while owners of private cars are also asked to refrain from washing them for the moment.

A spokesman for the Department of the Environment said the water supply situation has stabilised across most of the country and has improved in Dublin despite the ongoing restrictions.
