The Minister for Trade and Commerce, Billy Kelleher , joined Donegal company Mantis Cranes on a site visit to Brazilian company Construtora e Incorporadora Rossi, where the first Mantis Cranes self-erector crane is currently on trial.
The visit was made during this week's Enterprise Ireland trade mission to Brazil.
Mantis Cranes, based in Killygordon, Co Donegal, design and manufacture a range of customised self-erector cranes for use across a wide range of construction projects. The opportunity for the company to sell into Rossi is hugely significant for the company, in terms of profiling the Mantis brand and opening up further export opportunities not just in Brazil, but in the wider Latin America market. Rossi is a billion dollar corporation and one of the top constructors of the Brazil Government’s current housing development programme.
A number of factors combine to help position Mantis Cranes in this market. Their innovation capability, adaptability and focus on delivering customer solutions means that they can offer a product and service that enable construction companies increase their own production capacity.
The self-erector crane is a new concept for site material handling in Brazil, and Mantis Cranes have developed a new hybrid crane to specifically meet the needs of this market. Key factors for consideration in lifting technology include reach, load, assembly time, flexibility and security, Mantis Cranes are focussing on all of these in developing tailor made solutions for the Brazilian construction market.
Minister Kelleher described Mantis Cranes as an innovative Donegal-based engineering firm with strong market awareness.
He said: "Brazil is a key target market for Irish firms with major modernisation, infrastructure and development projects under way in the country. Mantis Cranes has shown it can crack new markets and create jobs for Irish workers by matching high-quality products to specific customer demands."
