Rapid International Ltd, a privately owned company based at Mullavilly, Tandragee, recently installed a 500Kw wind turbine at their production plant in Co Armagh.
Rapid International enlisted the services of Horizon Renewables to manage the entire project from start to finish including foundations, installation, electrical and also a five year maintenance contract estimated to be worth over £500,000 to Horizon.
The 47 metre high turbine will be used to generate power for the 40,000 sq ft factory, and the excess electricity can be sold back to the licensed electricity suppliers.
In line with the company's objectives to be the first industrial manufacturers in N.I. to become carbon neutral, this renewable technology will off set 430 tonnes of Carbon per year.
Ruth McQuigan, Managing Director, Horizon Renewables said: "We are delighted to work with Rapid International on the first and largest industrial installation that we have carried out in N.I., the Vestas V39 500Kw will create over 1 million units of electricity per annum more than 3 times the factory requirements and is set to save the company approx £100,000 per year on energy costs with a pay back period of approx 5-6 years."
The Vestas V39 500Kw turbine will be eligible for the Renewables Obligation Certificate (ROC) Scheme. This means that Rapid Internationals technology can be used to generate revenue which has reduced the pay back period significantly by selling their Roc’s to licensed suppliers across the U.K.
