Polypool Swims To Success In Ireland

Ireland's first purpose-built private swim school is enjoying the energy saving benefits of Polypool's heat-retaining pool panel system.

Polypool has designed a bespoke hopper-style pool for the new Water School in West Cork as part of a complete commercial package. Specified for high bather usage, the 16m x 7m swimming pool includes a filtration system with fast water turnaround, high durability liner, humidification control, and system management via an electronic display panel with remote control.

Polypool's insulated pool panel construction enables easy installation and ensures effective thermal insulation of the pool shell, reducing heat lost into the surrounding ground, saving energy, and cutting heating bills. The patented system retains up to 96% of heat that would normally be lost through the pool walls and floor using traditional construction methods. Experienced swimming instructor, Clive Seawright, who set up the Water School, says Polypool's heat retention performance has exceeded his expectations.

He commented: "The pool has an operating temperature of 30 degrees C and we had planned for a 2 degree heat loss during days when the pool is in constant use, but in fact we’re only losing 1 degree, resulting in an even greater saving on projected energy bills."

Providing safe, chemical-free swimming conditions was another important requirement for the new Water School. Polypool recommended a natural oxygen purification system that uses electronic oxidisation technology to provide 100% protection from bacteria for bathers without the negative effects of using chlorine, bromine, or other water cleaning chemicals.

Polypool was also able to advise the Water School on a cost-effective heating system. An open loop water-to-water heat pump system has been installed, which utilises a nearby river as a source of heat for producing hot water for the swimming pool, as well as the underfloor and air heating systems.

The complete Polypool solution is perfect for in-ground swimming pool projects for schools, spas, leisure clubs, and luxury domestic developments, and is particularly ideal for hydro-therapy pools where a higher constant temperature needs to be maintained. Polypool's engineers seek to be involved in the earliest stages of design to attend to such details as filtration inlets/outlets and under water lights. Manufacturing is scheduled to suit the project requirements, and delivery on site can be as little as two weeks from order. Installation may be carried out by a Polypool recommended contractor, or by any competent groundworks contractor with the assistance of Polypool's site support engineers. Wall panels simply cam-lock together and are held in place by bottom and top tracks. In fact the structure is so simple to assemble, the company also has a successful track record supplying kits to the self-build project sector.
