Health & Safety Awareness At Belfast College

Tool and equipment hire company, HSS Hire recently teamed up with the Patton Construction Group to promote health & safety at the new campus site at Titanic Quarter, Belfast Metropolitan College.

The new campus, which will replace the Institute's current facilities at Brunswick Street and College Square East, is expected to be completed in August 2011 and will house 18,000 full-time and part-time students.

On the 19th May both the Patton Group and HSS Hire demonstrated their commitment to safety with a dedicated team of experts delivering Working at Height workshops, toolbox talks and product demonstrations.

A team of 84 men from 12 companies including McOscar Contracts, Harvey Group, Roe Dry lining, Joseph Hughes, Craig Construction, A P W Fire, WMB Stainless, Architectural Systems, O'Connor Bros, Walsin Ltd and McKendry Fabrications were in attendance on the day.

Toolbox talks and all equipment were supplied by HSS and Conor McKimm, of HSS Hire Ireland said: "At HSS, safety is paramount and integral to everything we do. Everything that we hire, from the smallest tool to the largest piece of plant equipment – comes safety assured and we source, test, train, recommend, advise and repair all with safety in mind."

He added: "This Health & Safety Day at Titanic Quarter site was a great opportunity for HSS and the Patton Group to work together to deliver a culture of safety on site and to demonstrate to both the principal contractors and their employees our commitment to their health and safety. The support from all contractors on site was outstanding”.

Meanwhile, HSS has also announced it will start to offer training throughout Ireland.

HSS Training will deliver courses in Ireland at purpose built 'centres of excellence' in Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Galway as well as Belfast in Northern Ireland. Courses will also be offered at customer locations.

Mark Winfield, HSS Training Director, said: "Over the past 18 months or so, we've been really concentrated on growing the training part of the HSS group. By investing in new training centres, in new courses and in our fantastic team of trainers, we've enhanced our reputation as a leading provider of health and safety and technical training courses."
