Limerick Park Scheme Halted

Limerick County Council is now unable to give the 'green light' for construction to begin on Ballykeeffe Park, according to a newspaper report.

While work was due to begin on the €2m project last year, the park is now "not on the agenda" the Limerick Post reports.

Funds that were committed to the development have been severely depleted due to the building slump.

The Director of Services at the council, Paul Crower, has now ruled out the commencement of work on the park.


Councillor James Collins said: "We have been told that funds cannot be spent unless money is coming in, and that can only happen with future development in an area that is already so developed on but Ballykeeffe Park is the number one issue among the electorate in my area."

Mr Collins, who submitted a notice of motion calling for an allocation of €700,000 to commence work on the park over the next three years, said that discussion of the proposal has been deferred.

The Ballykeeffe Park proposal was expected to included a children’s playground, an open green area, walkways with seating and playing pitches

Local residents have accused councillors of using the park for self-promotion ahead of local elections.
