A major charity is being 'built-up' thanks to an Irish construction business.
BAM Contractors officially presented the proceeds of its annual fund-raising ball towards the redevelopment of the Marymount Hospice in Cork recently.
Managing Director of the company, Theo Cullinana, handed over a cheque for €85,000 following the recent event which took place at the Radisson Blu, Little Island.
Over 400 guests attended the ball, which is supported by BAM Contractors and two other long established Cork businesses - Heineken Ireland and Keanes Jewellers.
With the purpose-built hospice, and associated hospital facility for the elderly, due to open at Curraheen, Waterfall Road, next year, St. Patrick’s Hospital and Marymount Hospice have been actively fundraising for a number of years, and are confident that the balance of €3 million can be raised in time.
"We are thrilled to receive this donation of €85,000," said Kevin O'Dwyer, CEO of Marymount.
"Our sincere thanks go to all who organised and supported the Annual Hospice Ball. The on-going commitment and sponsorship of the event by BAM Contractors, Keanes Jewellers and Heineken Ireland really helps to offset major costs associated with our new development."
The new hospice at Waterfall Road will have 44 beds – 20 more than the current capacity – as well as en suite single rooms with facilities for relatives to stay overnight.
The new elderly care hospital will have three wards, each with 17 single beds and two four-bedded rooms – all with en suite facilities.
