Worker Killed On Site

The Irish Republic's Health and Safety Authority (HSE) is investigating the scene of a workplace accident in Clare in which a Sligo man in his 60s has died.

It's understood the man was living in Sligo Town but was originally from West Sligo.

The accident happened at around 8.15am yesterday morning in Clonlara when the man was struck by the track-digger he was working on with the victim pronounced dead at the scene.


Garda crime scene investigation officers have since carried out a technical examination of the scene.

The incident occurred close to DeCourcy's Bridge on the site of sewerage works outside the village.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and the body taken to the Mid Western Regional Hospital in Dooradoyle.

It is understood the deceased man had been working with the Sligo-based contractors for over 40 years.
