"The masterplan seeks to complement Downpatrick’s unique historic environment, particularly its early Christian heritage and its clear associations with St Patrick, by proposing development that will secure the reputation of Downpatrick as an attractive visitor destination.

"I believe that this plan will deliver my vision to have buildings, streets and spaces that are safe and friendly, provide a focus for community life and make Downpatrick more appealing to visitors. The masterplan is ambitious however it provides a realistic plan for taking advantage of the town’s natural setting."

She continued: "I have been encouraged by the willingness of the private sector to get involved in the process through the Downpatrick Business Forum.

"There is real optimism that the development opportunities will be taken up in the coming years and increase the economic vibrancy of the town.

"I am calling on everyone with a vested interest in the future of the town to give their views on the proposals. This feedback is essential to ensure that once finalised, the masterplan accurately represents a shared vision for the future of the town," she said.
