A £1.4m community resource building has officially opened in Cork city.
The state-of-the-art facility, known as 'The Hut', was unveiled by Lord Mayor Dara Murphy.
Lorraine O’Sullivan, Chairperson of the Local Board of Management said the centre has been much awaited and is welcomed by the local community.
"We are looking forward to developing many more activities for the benefit of local people in the future," she said.
The new scheme has been in planning since March 2003 when local residents came together with the city council, through RAPID, to look at the future of the building.
Local groups accessed Dormant Accounts funding through RAPID, which then led the way to securing funding of €745,000 from Cork City Council, a further €485,000 from RAPID Dormant Accounts and €120,000 from the HSE, which enabled this exciting new project to commence.
A total investment of €1.4m was secured for the building.
The architecturally designed, landmark building was completed in July 2008 and has already become a focal point for the area through its architecture.
