KILTORCAN QUARRIES LTD

The Quarry at Kiltorcan is 400 million years old and is internationally known for its rich assemblage of fossil ferns since 1853. As well as the large and spectacular plant fossils, the site has yielded freshwater bivalve, crustacean and fish fossils (freshwater mussel shells, fish scales and some rare arthropods) – providing a well preserved snapshot of life at the end of the Devonian period (400 million years ago) when significant evolution amongst plants was taking place. There are pieces on display in The National History Museum in Dublin and the Rothe House Museum in Kilkenny. The site is of international importance.

Kiltorcan Quarry has been a commercial quarry since the 1980s. Dan O’Neill along with his co-workers has worked hard over the years to build up a loyal customer base and offers the best in coloured stones, chippings, building stone, paving stone, grit and dust etc. Pebble stones and Chippings are a speciality with ornate natural colours such as purple, gold and light green. Everyday yields a new fossil, and if you require large stones for your garden steps or display you may be lucky enough to boast a 400 million year old fossil.

Kiltorcan Quarry supplies all types of coloured guillotined building stone including Sandstone and Granite. The stone can be sold in bulk or bought by the bag. Kiltorcan sell a bag which is a tonne in weight at very competitive prices.
