About Rudmix Concrete Batching Systems Ltd
Rudmix Concrete Batching Systems Ltd, based in Pomeroy, Co. Tyrone was founded by Danny Ruddy. The Concrete/quarry plant manufacturing company has been developed from origins stretching back to 1971. The main focus was initially the needs of the local Irish construction/road building sector.
For the background of how the company was grown, we need to go back to the early 1960's. It was then that Danny "served his time" with some of the local Engineering companies.
In late 1961, he got a start at P.S. Mallon Engineering Ltd Lisgallon, Dungannon. It was here that Danny was introduced to quarry/concrete production plant manufacture by Engineering inventor Sylvester (Silvee) Mallon.
Then around 1964 he began working for TJ McKenna & Son, Reclain fabricating & welding agricultural implements such as link boxes and land rollers. Also general engineering such as steel farm sheds and buildings.
While working during the day with TJ Mc Kenna, Danny was also carrying out plant maintenance for local quarries on evenings & weekends. It was this involvement that was the turning point to head in the direction which continued for the next 50 years onwards.
Shortly after leaving TJ Mc Kenna's, Danny began his own production of quarry plant. Working in restricted farm shed space, and at the rear of the house literally. In these conditions Concrete batching plants & Cement storage silos were fabricated " at the gable of the bungalow".
Danny travelled on some sales trips around Ireland, and soon began taking orders for Concrete Batching plants/quarry to produce. Initially working for Maye Concrete Co. Leitrim in 1971. This was an order to manufacture a number of stockpiling conveyors for their new Parker crushing plant.
In 1975 the company was involved in its now most historic contract. This was to manufacture and install a number of Concrete plants for another company making its first steps into the construction industry. Sean Quinn Concrete Derrylin Co. Fermanagh. Danny and his team succeeded, getting Sean and his team up and running in the concrete business.
