About Ecocel
Cellulose fibre insulation Information.
Until recently, insulation has always been something of an afterthought - we built first and then, well, just stuffed some insulation in afterwards.
Everyone in building knows about itchy mineral-fibres, glass-fibre and rockwool. But there is a third insulation fibre that not all builders have discovered yet - cellulose fibre. Cellulose is far more friendly to both the builder and the environment.
Cellulose insulation is made from recycled newspaper, with natural salts added to give amazingly superior resistance to fire, mould and insects, etc. The result is an actual reduction of greenhouse gases because the material is carbon-negative – more carbon is locked away than is released in its manufacture. This puts cellulose insulation at the forefront of environmental materials.
Cellulose is installed with a blowing system, whereas alternatives are installed by hand. Being pumped under pressure to tightly fill every space, cellulose measurably improves airtightness, leading to better pressure test results, so less heat leaking away. Even with painstaking care, the alternative of cutting rolls or slabs into shape cannot match this.
Another feature of the system loved by builders is the speed – large buildings can be insulated in days rather than weeks. Time is money for builders, but don’t forget the environment.....less time = less energy to get the job done.
Ecocel recently completed a Housing Association project in Clonakilty, Co. Cork. The entire project consisted of 56 houses. Such was the speed of work that 16 Houses were completed in 3 days. Architects on the site were Coady Architects. The builder was MMD.
Cellulose fibre insulation.....simple, natural, superior.
