About AMI (WEEE Recycling)

Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Recycling in Northern
Ireland.

Every year over 1 million tonnes of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) was being disposed of in landfills across the UK, with only 18% of all waste being recycled. However, with the final phase of the Government's plans to implement the WEEE Regulations now complete, this may all be a thing of the past. New legislation became law in the UK on 2nd January 2007.

As from 1 July 2007, all businesses affected by the 'Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment Regulations 2006. must be aware of their new responsibilities and implement the correct procedures in accordance with the Regulations or be liable to a fine.

AMI collect and process all categories of WEEE

Mallusk-based electronic recycling business, AMI, are very well prepared for the impact that the WEEE Regulations will have on their clients - AMI have been in business since 2001, specialising in recycling end-of-life PC's and are now the largest IT & Electronics recycling business in Northern Ireland. In addition AMI now collect and process all categories of WEEE.

AMI provide a comprehensive recycling and remarketing service for old computers and other office electronic equipment. AMI also perform another essential 'environmental' service by permanently wiping all existing data from computer hard drives to prevent any potential misuse of sensitive information.

The Managing Director of AMI, John Gillespie, is justifiably proud of diverting several thousand tons of WEEE from being sent to landfill annually: 'Recovery, Reuse and Recycling are key performance targets that we always aim to achieve within AMI. We apply a strict environmental policy of refusing to export any WEEE overseas. There is ample evidence of the illegal 'Toxic Trade' in computers damaging third world countries. Our clients are delighted that we in some way help solve this big WEEE problem.'
