Smith Concrete was established back in 1984 by Mr James Smith who saw a market for the manufacture and supply of precast products. Through building up a good customer base situated both north and south of the border the business has grown from strength to strength. With the market for precast products proving to be a success, ten years later Smith Concrete expanded by supplying mini-mix concrete. This proved to be a popular venture and strengthened the customer base even more.

After achieving a further ten years with successful business and employing good long-term employees who have gained vast experience and knowledge in their jobs through various training courses etc, Smith Concrete felt the need to prove its excellence of quality through our recent achievement of gaining the ISO 9001 Quality Management Certificate, this shows a reflection of the business by stating that quality and efficiency is top of our agenda at all times. We monitor each step of the production very carefully i.e., from the arrival of raw materials to the delivery of finished products.

Mini Mix
This section of the business has proven that a demand was always required for the delivery of concrete/floor screed with smaller lorries (i.e., were access is limited) within our catchment area. With a major investment in 2004 on a new state of the art batching plant and the continuous upgrading of our vehicles we feel that we can give 100 percent in providing the best service especially for todays needs in meeting deadlines with contract work at major construction sites and also for the DIY enthusiasts.

We are also renowned for our prompt delivery schedule which requires early morning deliveries to suit the customer/builder but of course this task is only met because of our long-term experienced employees who are reliable and willing to do the job, which is a big asset to any company.

Ready Made Mortar
Ready-to-use mortars are made in factories under tightly-controlled conditions and delivered to site, ready to use. They have guaranteed mix proportions and overcome any potential problems relating to site mixing.

Wet ready-to-use mortars are stored in tubs on site and require no further mixing. They incorporate a retarding agent which makes them fully usable for a specific period - usually some 12-36 hours.

Renowned for our consistent top quality floor screed, Smith Concrete offers correctly proportioned factory batched screed at unbelievable prices. Our ready-to-use cement & sand screed is ideal for flooring and roofing applications. It can be used as ground floor slabs (floating foundations), used on suspended floors, as a topping to lightweight screeds based on perlite or other lightweight aggregates and can also be used as a floating construction over insulation to give acoustic or thermal properties.

Screed
In March 2006 the business saw the arrival of a new Putzmeister Floor Screed Pump. This pump is designed to deliver floor screed to the first floor of a new house but has a deliver distance of 80 metres high and 150 metres on level ground. With the purchase of this asset we have found our catchment area widening with the result of new customers and can provide a new service for our existing customers leading to customer satisfaction. We are currently the only business locally to provide this service.
