About Setanta
Gribbin Construction was established in 1963 by Liam, Eamon and Joe Gribbin, their main ambition was building highly insulated timber frame homes. Mark and Niall Gribbin, who worked as joiners for Gribbin Construction, picked up the mantle in 2000 with Setanta. A 2nd generation family run timber frame business was developed but the primary focus remained; to provide high insulation homes.
Recently the company was accredited as being certified Passive House Designers; this is an esteemed qualification which focuses on energy efficient construction. This certification complements Setanta’s objective of creating zero carbon rated and energy efficient homes.
As well as being certified Passive House designers, and experienced zero Carbon house builders We also carry out individual Thermal Bridging designs perfecting the construction methods and details in order to build a more thermally efficient house. The company is continually increasing and refining skills and abilities to improve the quality of the product and service that we provide.
Zero Carbon
“Zero Carbon” is the highest energy standard within “The Code for Sustainable Homes”. By definition "Zero Carbon" is the satisfaction of three criteria
In basic terms the house must have a very low energy loss and also generate enough electricity to off set for any carbon produced by the house. This may sound a little bit daunting at first but truthfully it is not. Each house will be assessed individually in order to ascertain what the actual energy performance is of that particular dwelling. This may be easily affected by simple things like window size or orientation.
Passive House
Unlike “Zero Carbon” the Passive House principals are only concerned with the energy performance of the building, no concern is given to the CO2 output of the building.
In contrast the Passive House principals are more energy efficient and stringent
than those of Zero Carbon construction.
Energy Efficient Homes
An energy efficient home is one that is built following all of the correct building principals but may not quite achieve the badge of Passive House or Zero Carbon.
Supawall
Supawall® is the branded name for our injected insulation timberframe panel with an outstanding U value of 0.11 w/m2k.
With this very low U value, high performance thermal bridging details and attention to airtightness we can guarantee a very energy efficient house build.

“Zero Carbon” is the highest energy standard within “The Code for Sustainable Homes”. By definition "Zero Carbon" is the satisfaction of three criteria
- That he building HLP (Heat Loss Parameter) is equal to or less than 0.8 (w/m2k)
- That the DER (Dwelling Emissions Rating) be no more than Zero kilograms per M2 (kg/m2/year)
- That the net CO2 emissions from the dwelling over the course of the year be no more that 0.kg per M2 (kg/m2/year)

Reviews & Testimonials for Setanta
October 15, 2013
Setanta build our home on a turnkey basis whilst we lived abroad. With no building experience, we took a leap of faith and I don't think we could have found a better company. The house was completed with 6 months, they handled everything, incl building control and went beyond the call of duty, even helping us move furniture. There were no delays or problems, and Mark and Niall were always available to answer any questions we had. Can't recommend them highly enough.
